About our Department
Department of Statistics and Computer Science can be named as one of the most rapidly evolving departments in the Faculty of Science.
Since its establishment in 1996, it has gained its capacity in terms of facilities as well as the number of students over the years.
When it comes to Statistics, the department has a wide range of courses at the undergraduate level and has a strong tradition of 'hands-on' teaching,
providing students with the opportunity to mix course content and practical experience dealing with real-world problems under supervision.
The Department does a great job in undergraduate education at the Faculty by offering multiple four-year degree programs in addition to the general degree program. Currently, it offers a Special Degree in Statistics.
It also coordinates the four-year degree program in Statistics and Operation Research in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics.
Apart from these, the department also offers courses for the Applied Sciences Degree program.

About us
The “Statistical Circle” is a society established by the students of the University of Peradeniya, Faculty of Science in 2009. The main objectives of forming The Statistical Circle of the University of Peradeniya were, as they are today, to provide an organization that would act in the common interest of the subject who follows statistics as a subject at the university, to bring its members closer contact with those engaged in the practice of statistics and mainly, to foster interest, understanding and the research in the field of statistics

On February 14, 2024, the University of Peradeniya's Statistical Circle held its annual general meeting, at which the newly elected committee was appointed.
The lecturers at the Department of Statistics and Computer Science deserve a special thank
including Dr. Hemalika T.K. Abeysundara, who was appointed as the Senior Treasurer of Statistical Circle, Head of the Department Dr. Sachith P. Abeysundara, Ms.B.R. Pavithra M. Basnayake on their part in helping to make this event successful.
We express to the departing committee our sincere appreciation for the job well done in the previous year and wish them luck in their future undertakings.
We extend our sincere congratulations to the new committee and wish them much success in their new roles.

The guest talk organized by Statistical Circle, University of Peradeniya will be held on 19th September 2023 from 9 AM onwards at SCLT 1.
Dr. Manoj Chandrabose, research fellow at center for urban transitions, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia will be the honorable resource person.
ACTIVITIES
Science Honours Qualified Gathering-2019
The annual gathering of Science Honor's qualified undergraduates of Statistics and Computer Science was held on 10th April 2019 at Gal bungalow (University Premises) with the Dean's participation; Faculty of Science academic staff members, Demonstrators and honor's qualified, undergraduates. This gathering was held annually and organized by second-year undergraduates selected for the Honor's Degree Programme in Statistics or Computer Science. At the meeting, newly appointed undergraduates introduce themselves to the Lectures and Demonstrators.
Statistical Camp-2017
The Statistical Camp is one of the main events organized by the Statistical Society of the University of Peradeniya. The Stat Camp '17 was held at Sanasa Campus premises, Kegalle, on 14th and 15th October 2017. The camp was held overnight, and Academic staff members, guests, and Demonstrators participated in the event. On the first day of the event, students listened to the guest lectures by experts in the field. On the night time circle, organize several extracurricular events. This camp's main aim is to maintain and develop the relationship with the industry and give a better understanding of undergraduates.
